Everyone Need Financial Education
Financial Education is about knowing and understanding the principles of earning, spending, saving and investing. It is vital for everyone as our life is revolved around money. Financial Education gives individuals control over their money and other financial resources. With the financial skills, it allows individuals to have the abilities and confidence to make informed and responsible financial decisions.
However, Financial Education is virtually not being covered in our current education curriculums. This could be due to the perceived complexity of the subject matter. This has led to many Singaporean not making well informed decisions when dealing with financial matters.
It is thus crucial to be Financial Literate. This is especially beneficial if our children start to receive Financial Education when they are young. It is vital to instil good financial habits in young children before bad habits start kicking in. This will make a vast difference in their life and would enable them to achieve their dreams of being Financial Independence.
As such, we at MoneyGenius has taken the time and effort to specially design and crafted various programmes suitable for all ages, from Children to Adults. We aim not only to educate the participants in understanding the various financial concepts, but most importantly, to touch them emotionally and change their behaviour that will last them for their lifetime.
Why is Financial Literacy Important?
Financial Literacy is defined as the ability to make informed judgements and to take effective decisions regarding the use and management of money. This is a vital skill in today world as we are facing increasingly complex financial decisions.
Our current society requires consumers to constantly improving their financial literacy to cope with the ever changing financial and social environment. Following are the factors that have an impact on the financial literacy level required today
· Greater consumer participation in investment markets
· Increased expectations on consumers to manage financial matters for their retirements
· There is no job for life and therefore consumers face less stability and different risks
· Increasingly complexity of financial products and services
· Much easy access to credit and expansion of credit sources
· An increase in the volatility of markets
Why is Financial Literacy important?
Financial Literacy is important as without it, individual may
· End up with poor money management skill, spending all their monthly income and remain financially dependent on their parents
· Unable to budget appropriately to meet expenses
· Grow up with bad money habits and possibly end up into debts
· Lack confidence in making the right financial choices and affect other areas of their lives
· Equate money with self-worth and develop unrealistic expectations
· Unable to identify financial products or services that meet their financial needs
· Unsure how to get and access independent financial advice
· More likely to fall victim to abusive practices and scams
However, with a good financial literacy, individual may
· Stand a better chance to be successful as adults
· Learn to make choices and become more independent
· Know how to set and achieve financial goals
· Develop the confidence to make their own financial decisions
· Achieve financial independence and take care of their retirement lives

Weekly courses for your kids to build a strong foundation on Financial Literacy
This August, MoneyGenius is launching a series of new programmes that will help your kids to build a solid foundation on Financial Literacy. These courses are carefully designed to cater for different age groups ranging from 6 – 16 years old.
