Holiday Camp 2008
The 2008 holiday camp has concluded with children fully enjoying the 3 days programmes. Through various fun activities, children attended the camp have learnt
- to identify money, both coins and notes
- making changes
- how to handle allowances given by their parents
- be responsible for their own money
- to maximize the values of their money
- identifying needs and wants
- the steps when making purchases
To put all the concepts they have learnt into real life practice, children went to the supermarket to experience real life marketing. They learnt to check the prices of the items before making the purchase, where to look for the items they wanted to purchase, and finally, each of the children took turns to pay for the item they were assigned to purchase. Through this activity, children learnt to ensure that they were given the right change by the cashier by verifying against the receipt.
On the final day of the camp, children were preparing for the grand finale, the mini funfair. The children spent the day understanding what an entrepreneur is and how to become one. They learnt to make cards, bookmarks and sandwiches which will be sold in their individual stalls. All the children have put in their heart and soul to create the most attractive cards and bookmarks and also the most delicious sandwiches for their potential customers during the mini funfair.
The time has finally arrived and these children have turned themselves into young entrepreneurs. They decorated their stalls in the most creative manner and started their businesses when their parents and guests arrived. All the children in the 4 stalls devoted themselves fully to ensure their businesses were successful and attracted the most customers. In the end, all the stalls have enjoyed good businesses and altogether, they have raised $90 for contribution to Kumpung Senang Charity Education and Foundation. Well done, young entrepreneurs!
Finally, it has come to the end of the day. Children were given a certificate for attending the 3 days camp and a piggy bank to encourage them to start savings in their early age. While the 3 days camp have finally ended, but I believed all the children have brought back many essential knowledge, got to know many new friends and sweet memories. Well done children, must remember what you have learnt over these few days and apply them to your daily life.
See you in the next camp…
